A project more than four years in the making took a major step forward this week as the Board of Mayor and Aldermen awarded a contract for construction to Rose Construction of Covington, TN. The project, connecting Walker Park to a trailhead at Elizabeth Drive, is expected to get under construction in July.
More than three years after funding was first announced for the Atoka Greenway Trail - Phase I project, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen awarded a contract for construction at their Special Called Meeting on Tuesday, June 28. The contract, awarded to Rose Construction in the amount of $450,382.49, will connect the splash pad plaza at Walker Park to a trail-head at Elizabeth Drive behind the Atoka Fire Station # 3. The ten-foot wide asphalt trail will run parallel to Walker Parkway in existing greenway space behind homes on the south side of Walker Parkway and will cross the storm water channel at Walker Park with a feature bridge span.
A future phase will connect the trail head on to Pioneer Park.
Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of the year.
